When we moved here I bought packages of file storage boxes at Office Depot. They come flat and you fold to assemble. They have lids which you would want to secure on with packing tape. They are uniform in size weigh less and are easier to pack in the van and the right size to not be too heavy to lift and they have finger holes to lift with. Then at the other end you just fold flat as you empty them and give away or store for other uses. Costco sells the traditional packing boxes on line, I believe.
Book stores are awesome, especially BYU's. You just call ahead and let them know you would like some boxes for moving and they can set aside as many as you would like before they break them down and haul them off. Right now is a good time at BYU b/c Education week is in Aug. and they get great sturdy boxes from all those books. The best thing is they are free!
