Emergency Preparedness

Dear 6th Ward Members,
I have a friend in Herriman who had to leave his home in 10 minutes with as many valuables as possible, as he watched the fire come down the mountain. Luckily his home was saved by Firemen, but it had major smoke damage. His main point was that there was no warning from police or fire teams until they were pulling out of their driveway. He had to choose on the spot what to take and what to leave. An emergency checklist of "key items to take with you" like photo albums, computer hard drive etc. would have been handy in addition to 72 hour kits.

In light of hearing this story, I thought it might be good to remind each of us the importance of establishing personal emergency plans in our homes. The Church Provident Living web site refers to several online resources, including http://www.ready.gov/america/index.html and http://www.fema.gov/pdf/library/epc.pdf

Thanks,
James Christensen
